MacWorld ‘06 Overview

January 17th, 2006

In iLife ‘06 the whole suite got updated, but the two more important are GarageBand and iWeb.

GarageBand

Now, not only is GarageBand a great way of creating your own music, you can now do podcasts! I got the chance to play with garageband and it’s so easy to use. It makes it very easy to record either through a microphone or else ichat conversations.

iWeb

New application that was just announced. It now makes it VERY easy to create webpages. For the beginner user or someone just looking to get a site up quickly, it’s probably the best thing to be using. If you have a mac of course.

New Intel Macs

Apple released new intel macs. They are insanely fast. iMac is 2x faster than the old one and the new MacBook Pro is 4x faster. But before you rush out and get one right now (as I’m sure you were just about to do) you need to know that all your old applications need to be made into universal binaries. Not by you, but by the developpers. So if you have any applications that you desperately need, check that they’ve been made into universal binaries before making the switch to intel macs. Of course your old ones will still work, but just slowly through emulation.

Intel Inside

January 11th, 2006

It’s day two of Macworld. Funny thing, I’m at a tech convention and can barely get access to the internet.

True to the suspcions, Steve announced the first of the intel macs yesterday 6 months ahead of schedual. The MacBook Pro and the new iMac will be the first macs to make the change to the intel CPU. Both will be using Intel Core Duos, which are duel core CPUs. These CPUs make tremendous speed increases to their previous generation. Check them both out over at apple.

Also on his string of announcements was iLife ‘06 which includes a new garageband that makes podcasting super easy. To keep up with the popular “casting” of today, Steve has started “Photocasting”. You can share all your photos through iPhoto now, to both mac and peecee users.

I’ve been filming a lot, and a video will be out once I can get a computer to do it.

More to come later, see ya.

It’s Early

Well, here we are. It’s around 4 in the morning San Francisco time. Of course we’re we’re waiting in line for Steve Jobs. Getting here at 4 in the morning, we’re around 20th in line. The first person in line got here at 8… last night. Oh well, I’ll be updating again in the keynote if possible, so see you soon!
